Quick B/t query
Hi, just a quick dumb query - posted originally in the in the Audio/Video Bluetooth section, but thought UK section might give me an answer:
Had to take the hinged floor/trap-door out of my boot this morning to dust off a load of bloody snow that slid in when i opened it, and upon putting it back in noticed a silver box/unit mounted further back toward the rear seat. Now my car has the (UK) "hifi" speaker upgrade with additional amp, which initially I thought this might be, but it has the bluetooth symbol on the label, amongst other stuff (and it was dark and wet so I didn't want to clamber in and read the rest). My car doesn't have bluetooth option, so does anyone know what this is? or is it simply an amp that has bluetooth compatability?

TMP - I'm not totally sure it IS the amp to be honest - i DIDN'T spec B/T with the car but DID spec Hi-Fi Louspeaker upgrade. I wouldn't know where either were located, but assumed it would be the amp, as I hadn't ordered B/T, although was quite surprised to see the B/T logo on something.....
My car was ordered very late to try and snag one of the final "Editions" upgrades before they finished, and I was surprised it was only 4 weeks for delivery - could have understood it if I had gone for something already built (as might be expected with a limited run of specials - "that's the spec sir"), but I was able to order a few "rarely" picked options/combination - like Lemon for the Dakota leather with S/G as the exterior colour, and virtually no-one goes for the Hi-Fi Loudspeaker option apparently - either they're happy with the standard offering (and perhaps completely deaf) or shell out big money on the Logic 7 system. I'd be well-chuffed if the "mystery box" turned out to be a B/T module (as presumably the work & cost involved of "finishing off the install" would be much less, but surely that's not likely? but then why would merely an "amp" carry the B/T logo? Will try and upload a pic tonight when I get in.

Winco - Is the box on the right hand side (as you look into the boot), if it is and there's a Bluetooth symbol on it, then IIRC this IS the Bluetooth option box. I notice you have 6FL option, isn't this the USB interface option? I believe that the USB interface and Bluetooth interface share the same box.
It might be worth trying to find a friendly BMW Tech and have your car plugged into the BMW diagnosics box... Take a photo of the unit and post it up so I can have a better look |

If you have Satnav Pro, then the bluetooth module is built into the head unit, and not in the telematics control unit in the boot

Thanks E92Fan,
Sounds handy that the USB hub controller also has some of the B/T gubbins required. Will price up the parts required and labour. cheers.

I wouldn't be surprised if BMW fitted the BT hardware into all Prof Nav Systems and then just charged to remove the software supression.
