But after seeing the massive damage on one of 06330i's tires (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30147) I decided to play it safe and pay the extra $80 per tire vs non-RFT and have ordered a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST's on 17x8" M5 replica (style 65) wheels. It occurred to me that the damage sustained may not be as simple as a nail or a screw, a gouge would totally immobilize my car and would most certainly be quite dangerous if something catastrophic like that happened at speed.

Are you in the GTA? If so are you buying your Winter setup from a GTA based dealer or using Tirerack or Tiretrends? I am still searching for a GTA based dealer that can come close to their pricing.

I ordered from 1010Tires.com. Right now they are offering the previous-gen M5 replicas for 179.99 a piece in 17x8 ET38, plus the Dunlop winter RFT's for 259.99 a piece, even TireTrends "special" price on the M5 reps are 199.99. I figured I better grab it at this price before the rims go back up to $240 like everyone else seems to be selling them for.

http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?w...l=M5+%28R89%29 (might have to switch to Canadian $)

I like to buy from out of province so I only pay GST. 8% PST savings can really add up when you're looking at $1900. Also they have a promotion right now, $50 off if you buy a set of wheels & tires by October 15.

I made my decision on the wheel choice based on this thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4760

Edit: Oh, and according to the rep I spoke to, they come with the BMW roundel center caps.

I bought the Airman yesterday because I have decided to go the non-RFT route. I make about 3 trips a year to E.Sask to visit the in-laws, and my concern is the availability of RFTs in more remote areas. My winter rubber is 205/55/16 so there is a better chance of finding these in less populated locations than a RF. Additionally, catastrophic sidewall failure will also render the RFTs non-driveable.

Just a follow up to my order: Apparently 1010Tires needs 2-3 weeks before they will have this wheel in stock, so those of you considering buying for the winter, make sure you give it enough time just incase there is a back-order. Incase anyone is wondering, they don't charge your credit card until they ship.

Drive across the border and pick one up along with a couple of refills

I drove South across the border once to get new tires installed and drove back the same day, saved hundreds in the end. "Anything to declare? umm...nope!"

Maybe next time I go up to Seattle that would be an option, but living in SoCal..maybe not..
