0X2142 = 0000 0010 0000 0001 0000 0100 0000 0010

the '0x' denotes a number value in hexadecimal. a hex digit has 8 bits.

A hex digits has 4 bits. The 0x is just a notation to denote an hexadecimal value so 0x2142 is a 16-bit value. An ASCII character has eight bits and if you see 0X2142 as a character string then it becomes 0x305832313432. It think the OP meant 0x2142 to be a 16-bit hexadecimal value.
