that is actually not the 4inch backing plate for the flex.

It does fit the flex 3401 though, but it's a 6"in backing plate.

Yes, the Edge E2K Flex Conversion Kit, EF08 is designed to be used with the
Flex XC 3401 tool. This kit is designed to allow you to buff with the
double-sided Edge pads that utilize the quick connect system. These pads
have a center hex attachment system, this is not the system that is
standard on the XC 3401 tool. The way the conversion kits works - you
remove the backup pad from the tool, change out a screw that will attach
the quick adaptor to the tool backup pad, and reattach it to the tool. You
need to have the original backup pad on the tool, this contains the gear
that drives the tool. Instructions come with the conversion kit. The tool
is a six inch tool (the tool is designed for use with six inch pads).
