Getting E92 lumbar settings right is like cracking a safe!
Is it me, or does anyone else find getting their lumbar support setting right incredibly difficult?!
I often end up fiddling with the up down in out buttons for entire trips in the car. Sometimes I find a position that is 95% comfortable, then lose it when trying to find the extra 5%! My last car was a mercedes SL350 where i just set the lumbar to maximum, and it was the most comfortable seat i've ever used, i never adjusted it again in the 2.5 years I owned it. Previously i had a 545i without lumbar, which crippled my back. I'm clearly sensitive to the problem, but would be interested to hear if anyone else finds it awkward, or if there is a "correct way" to adjust your driving position. I've tried virtually all the seat combinations from right up by the wheel, all the way through to almost lying flat like a bed!! Its actually affecting my enjoyment of the car now.

I found that too.
But when driving back from Switzerland, and sitting for many hours on end I find a position that works well - though you might not choose it when driving short trips about town. I just leave it now. Though the desire to fine-tweak it is powerful. I think the lumbar adjust is an option ? The Recaros in my old RS2000 are supremely grippy and comfortable. With only seat back upright adjust and forward and back ... love 'em. D.

Personally am very very happy with the seating position I have found.
Each to their own I feel...

My lumbar is ok. I only use it on long journeys.
I find when driving quite quickly i like to be deeper in the seat so the side bolsters hold me in better. MEGA, the OP is talking about Lumbar support, not the seating position. The lumbar is an option from the factory.

I've had the car now for nearly 2 years and still adjust it on most trips. I found a position that was just right and then my wife drove the car and that was it lost!! Memory seats next time I think (if that stores it - not sure) It does give you something to do when stuck in traffic though!

No, and the side bolster adjustment isn't either.

I'm just going to have to conclude that, for me anwyay, the seats aren't as comfortable as those in the 55 reg SL - i know its not a car for direct comparison with an E92, but the BMW seat is more high tech, far more customisable, and I think, should be as good. I went through the guide on this site - http://www.drivingergonomics.com/ - and it helped to get me 90% there. Fine tuning has got me another 5%, and that will do for me. I guess i'll just have to pin myself to the seat with shed loads of torque for the remaining 5%...

Is support in the middle of the back, or is it not, something that is a part of the "seating experience". Put a sock in it.

That might work. Adjusted a few older seats using a similar method.
But Carl is right, the lumbar support feature is an option on most cars as we weren't talking about seating position in general - more the lumbar support positioning. D.

Mine doesn't have lumbar adjustment - I asked for it and the doughball salesman thought you couldn't get it without fully electric seats - he was wrong but I didn't know any better at the time.
I got an ache in the small of my back from the seat from new but sometimes, if you give it long enough, your weight on the seat "adjusts" it over time and now I have no problems whatsoever. Rather like use making shoes more comfortable. |

You must remember that your body changes throughout the day - in the morning after a good night's sleep the spine is elongated and the position you want for the extra lumbar support is different to that when it's later in the day and the spine has compressed.
