Yes. After claying the surface will be smooth as glass.

My car was clean before, but I recently had it clayed and didn't realize how much of a difference it would make. The surface feels like a mirror.

Yup. I live in Florida too, like calvino. Had my car clayed about four months ago (shouldn't do it more than twice a year) and it made it incredibly smooth but whenever I go two weeks or more without a wash (like now) the body of my car feels like sandpaper as calvino is describing of his car. But when it gets washed, it feels smooth as glass again everytime. I just put some much effort into the cleaning of my car when I do it (takes me five hours) that I've decided to only clean her once every 3 or 4 weeks, about the frequency that I get a hair cut. Starts getting pretty dirty after two weeks, but it's bearable as I do small cleanings in between to upkeep it. Like, I clean the wheels at least once a week and spot clean the car every few days or so (remove bird poo, tree sap and harded pollen around areas of the car---mostly happens on the hood).

His tap water too!

He's in Florida so his tap water probably comes from limestone aquifiers and therefore full of minerals. Not to mention salt spray (IF he's need the ocean).

Doesn't make a freakin' difference if you ask me. I bought that $130 water purification system from Autogeek.net and it did nothing. It promised no water spots and I GOT water spots. Pain in the ass.

If you are using Mothers pure Carnauba then it has no cleaning activity at all. You should clay then apply the wax. After that, I would recommend using their cleaner wax every so often (maybe every few months) to get rid of light contaminants that pure wax will not clean. You could also use Mothers pre-wax cleaner followed by the Carnauba.
