Ugh, garage door problems...

Hey guys, new to the forum and new to BMW. Last spring I purchased an '06 330xi. It's pretty safe to say I will be buying BMW for some time now. May even "pawn off" my car to my wife and pick up the turbo next summer, who knows.

But in the mean time, having read all the manuals and everything, I just can't get my mirror buttons to program my garage door. Yes, my door is the locking kind where you have to flick the switch and then have 30 seconds to go hit the button in the car--but I dont pick up a signal. When I initially tried it with the doors handheld remote, I could get the car to receive a signal, but then I would get the super-fast flashing indicating it was a locking door.

So anyhow, if anyone has any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong, I would be thankful.

Thanks.

tosh, I remember I did not have any problem setting my up and i am no expert at it (quick review of it, park car in garage, leave car running, hit the learn button on garage door opener unit, sit inside car, hit the handheld remote key, and press the button on the mirror until the light turn solid, got to do it within 1 minutes from the time you press the learn button). I have a Sears garage door opener that is 4 yeas old. I don't know what you mean by "locking kind". Some more information would help. Like how old is the garage door opener? can you snap a photo of the garage door opener and the supplied remote control? If you have a new garage door opener, there should be a learn function button on the garage door opener that you should press which will sinc with the handheld and the mirror unit.

hey, my namesake. I tried forever, before finding out, here on E90Post, that I had to hold the original garage opener only inches from the rv mirror and between it and windshield. The everything worked.
