KBB value
on trade ins, has anyone actually got the kelly blue book value for a car according to the website? My CA says no one gets that usually at a dealer?

KBB is cash value, but not necessarily market value. Local demand and things like the color of your car play a factor. My 7 year old Boxster is immaculate, but they are a dime a dozen and there are plenty sitting on used car lots so I know I am going to get less than KBB.

This is true. I got 2000k less than KBB value for my '03 VW Passat W8 because there is no real demand for that car. So I took the minor hit and got a nice '06 330i

I got over KBB trade-in for my 2004 X3, it was like 26,500, but they gave me 27,000.

KBB and Edmunds should only be used as guides, but since they don't buy the cars and will always be behind the realtime auction reports that most dealers are using.People need to be more realistic about the condition of their own cars as well.Dealers seem to appraise between fair and good, but rarely excellent even on '05 & '06's.It also can depend if they have a buyer lined up for your car,so they might offer better money than normal. It also helps if the customer can get independent numbers from Car Max or Auto Nation or someone willing to buy their car outside of a dealership.Take it to the dealership last,it's much easier to decide who to give it to so you're not stuck at the last minute.

Sold my Ghia for almost a 50% profit. As stated earlier, the market as well as supply and demand for your car will dictate what someone will pay

All sites like KBB are flawed in their approach. It is impossible to write a mathematical formula to determine what something is worth.
Reporting sites such as Manheim are more accurate indicators because something is worth what someone will pay, no more-no less.
