Warranty void after stereo upgrade.

Did somebody had problem with the warranty after upgrading the stereo system. I want to know the experience and opinion of the forum. So far no problems with me but I heard that they can void the battery replacement.

The dealership can obviously deny claims if there is something wrong with the stereo or speakers after an upgrade. They can’t deny a claim to your suspension or drivetrain for example if all you did was mess around with the sound system.

I've seen a post here about a battery replacement not covered. I have not personally had a chance to experience this.

I modded the stereo in my e36 and the battery went dead 7 years later, long after the warranty was up. I expect the bmw battery to last, so I'm not worried about it.

they could say battery failure was caused by excessive power drawing...but it would really depend on the dealer...

I believe they could only void warranty to anything pertaining the stereo and any electrical system linked to the stereo upgrade, I would imagine they could void the battery as the system is directly connected to it. Thats why I made my system easily removable in case I need to take it in for warranty.

that is true...if there is an electrical problem and it's traced back to the item that was installed it's not covered
