I presume these tools would be in addition to those in the tool kit that came with the car.

Should I want to do this, I think I'd look at the threads of the DIYs I'm interested in and see what the modifier says he/she used.

Some things that come to mind in no particular order are:
  • metric socket set
  • masking tape
  • electrician's tape
  • Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM)
  • Multiple grades of sandpaper (wet and dry)
  • Torx driver set
  • screwdriver set with both blade and Phillip's tips
  • jeweler's screwdriver set
  • thin polystyrene sheets (look in a model shop)
  • fuse puller
  • miscellaneous connectors and splices
  • latex gloves
  • plastic spatula
  • can of spray adhesive
  • body filler kit
  • touch-up paint with clearcoat to match the car's body color
  • WD-40
  • 3-in-1 Lubricant
  • Powered graphite for dry lubrication
  • small Maglite
  • plug puller for removing trim
  • digital camera to record the steps for when you do your after-action report to the forum
  • can't forget the can of Squirt
