BTW, if you have a bluetooth phone, you can actually call the businesses that the nav system finds via iDrive. I guess if you don't have a such a phone, the call option isn't there, so it leaves you without a way to independently call them.

I'm currently driving a 745 (look to the left) with an earlier version of the iDrive software. My understanding is that the version in the E60 and E90 is "simplified". Having perused the E90 manual, it looks pretty full featured and about as complex. The major change is that while E65 has controller with 8 directions, E60 and E90 have only four directions. That doesn't mean the E90 is lacking anything. The full front and read PDC is great. Obviously more useful as an aid when backing up. You will definitely want this. Some functions are made more complex with iDrive such as flipping between AM and FM on the radio. How do I flip bands? Speak "RADIO, FM."

All in all, I think iDrive is the right idea but still needs a bit of work even in the E90. Having said that, will I be getting Nav/iDrive in my E90? Car looks too plain without it.

May I ask exactly what it is you think that you get? IMO the I-drive is just another control system for the functions you already have (Except NAV then of course).

I personally hate the I-drive. A car should be initiutive and easy to configure. But it's simply too slow and complicated.

And it's expensive as well... Can you tell I didn't order with it?
i agree that it is a little expensive...but i find the UI to be quite intuitive and easy to operate without taking your focus off of the road (where it should be). plus, i feel it really finishes off the interior...I think it looks a little incomplete without iDrive. you cant make a product thats perfect for everyone though so to each his own

I wouldn't be able to cope without the integration into the iDrive screen. Polarized sunglasses make it a must, plus the sheer convenience once you've learned to use it properly is well worth the money. Not a great nav system by any means, but the package is well worth the money.

The I-Drive system is one of the most used features on my car. It makes everything easier and is by far something I will have in future Bimmers.

I do not have it on my 08 and I regret not getting however it was a dollars and cents thing.....but, my lease is up in 2 1/2 years and you can bet it WILL be on my next one in 2012!

Along with a few other things I don't have now....but, iDrive...is the one I most look forward to having!

Has anyone else noticed you can't read the non-idrive display with polarized sunglasses? Had a great LCI e90 335 in space gray from the dealership the other day, and I loved it more than my own car, except for the fact that I had to remove my sunglasses to read the display.

The 09 iDrive is worth every penny. Couldn't see me owning this car without it.
