Leasing "new" car with miles on it
The more I think about the deal the dealership is offering me the more it sounds fishy. They found a 335i for me with all the options I want in MA. (I'm in NJ). They are telling me that the car will have some miles on it since it was driven as a demo. They are not giving me a discount and they say it still sells for new since it has never been titled.
Is this true? What is an acceptable amount of miles? Since I am leasing I'm not too worried but I think they are making more money on me getting it from the other dealer at a discount because of the miles yet selling it to me as new. |

They should give you a discount. If it was used as a demo then it should be used, not new.

I would be hessitant about getting a demo, you can be sure it was driven way beyond how BMW tells you to break in the 335. But if your going to do it, make sure that they at least give you a discount. (I believe that they are correct in saying they can sell the car as "new" since it has not been titled.)

They must know that you want it badly. Otherwise you'd walk away. Do you have any idea how people drive the demo cars even before they're broken in?

What is an acceptable amount of miles before it is considered "used".
What kind of discount can I get? They are getting it from another dealer. Will they be paying the other dealer less for this car and selling it to me for the price of a new car? |

The dealer pays the same price to the other dealer with miles or without.How many miles are on it and if you're leasing,it really doesn't matter since the miles start from zero on your lease.They could give some type of discount if it has some miles on it, .20 - .25 is fair.

Even though its not titled, its still a used car. I wouldnt take it unless they gave you a good discount.

I would be asking for a discount as well, although I know in some cases the dealership won't give one..a friend of mine was buying a new G35 coupe in 2003 (when they were brand new and hot) and he had to get one that was bought and titled to someone else, then turned in after 300 miles (the original owner hated it) and paid close to MSRP. If a car is in short supply and the dealer knows he can get full price for it, he will (simple supply and demand economics)
Don't worry about the mileage, the lease mileage is calculated from the number of miles you have upon delivery, not 0. The question is are you willing to accept some miles to not wait ~8 weeks to get your car... |
