Yay my first tire pressure warning!

Let's all thank highway 400. I only stay on it for 5 minutes before it takes me onto the 407 everyday, and it ends up sending a nail lodged into my rear passenger tire.

I haven't had a chance to call dealer yet. Anyone know what getting a new stock tire is gonna run me up? It's the Potenza RFT in 205/55/R16.. there's only about 8k on the tires, but does that matter? Will I have to replace both rears?

bleh!

Edit: oh, and if the weather was just a little colder, I wouldn't have cared so much and just threw my winters on. argh.

Update - Took it to SimplyTires today and had it patched. Everything seems to be doing just fine.

Thanks everyone.

i'm glad it worked, i'm surprised it was accurate given that we dont' have full TPMS sensors

i heard you can patch it. BMW wont do it, but I read posts where people have patched their RFT's many times due to nails etc. I'd be inclined to try that, instead of spending $$$ on new rubber.

I got the warning a few weeks ago. When the light up, I checked the tire pressure and it was only 10 psi left. And I just have it patched by Steelcase for $20 but I have regular tire instead of the crappy RFT.

I feel for you man. I had to get 2 new tires last year due to poor conditions of the road in Toronto. I'm just thankful that they weren't replacement for the same wheel. It's like I went half new I only have to spend half as much when I'm due for complete swap. But then again, my car was barely 1 year old when I had those two punctures..aww -_-

On the subject of tires, just had to replace ALL four of my tires last month due to odd wearing. the two back tire side walls looked like they gave in and con-caved into the tire. Couldn't see it from the back as it was inside edge of tire. This seems to be a manufacturer issue with the tire, and think there's a recall on it. Check with your dealer..

Sorry to hear that man... I had a nail in my old e90 rear wheel too (17" staggered); thankfully I had the tire insurance at the time so it didn't cost me anything.. but it still took them 3 weeks to get be a replacement ordered (had to drive on 1x 16" winter tire and 3x 17" summers for 3 weeks... it was very weird to drive...

I was told they could patch it, if the nail is near the center of the tread. Any puncture within 2-3 inches of the sidewall is unrepairable on a RFT due to it's design.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I recently got a quote for a 17" bridgestone RFT winter tire from an independent tire dealer for ~$400/tire. So I am assuming a summer tire would be around that price or slightly more.

Hmm it is actually VERY near to the center. Did the dealer tell you this, or an independant? I'll have to head down to the dealer when I get a chance soon.
