Transmission?
hi all,
currently i have an 04 325i with SMG and its brilliant. next week i turn this in for a 335 i with automatic transmission with paddle shifters. which technology is better? im guessing the newer one. are the new steptronic's shifts quicker than SMG? and does it carry a sport button just like SMG? Thanks. |

SMG will always be better than an automatic.

6-mt...or die trying.
i've never been a fan if tip-tronic, paddle-shifting in M mode, or whatever passes for "manual" these days. My wife didn't get an X5 because they no longer come in stick, so she went with an X3 instead. I've tried teh paddle shifters in loaners that I've had, and still just prefer having a clutch....maybe I'm just old.......school. Whatever you get, I'm sure you'll love the speed, handling, and engineering. From what I've read on this forum, everybody is very happy with their 335's. Enjoy, and welcome aboard. BTW: e90 335 or e92 335? This IS getting confusing.

E90 335i, cant wait, cant wait - i thought that the new transmission was on the same lines as VW. Not sure of the precise details, but i hope the shifts are quick as SMG when your at the limit!!

The new ZF auto/step transmission is also available in 335d which is sold in Europe. This diesel in stock form has over 400lb/ft of torque and only comes with the ZF auto tranny. But either way you go, auto or manual, it's an awesome car to drive.

thats good news. i test drove a 335i coupe manual, 335i manual. sometimes, during this drive you see a winding road up ahead, and wish that there was smg on these for hand on the wheel control!!
now i guess driving is beleiving with the new one! |
