Another one... in Europe!

I was reading the other thread about HPFP failures in Europe just as of today, and guess what happened on my way home

BANG, Limp mode. Shut off the car and it took a very long crank to restart.

DAMN!!!!

The car has run flawlessly until today. No long starts, no bad idle, nothing. Somehow limped it home.

Here are the codes:

29DC Cylinder injection shut Off
29F2 Fuel high pressure system, fuel pressure
2FBF Fuel Pressure at injection release

Present in both shadow codes and regular codes.

Now what really pisses me off is that my dealer won't be able to look at it until the 24th of November! On the phone the dealer tells me they have to look very thoroughly into the problem, since I have a very "advanced" car... WTF...

Car has 30k miles. I've had it for 6 month, ran 6500 miles, and so far I've had:

- turbos replaced (wastegate rattle)
- transmission leaked oil
- HPFP

Thank god I'm under warranty til march 2010. But all this makes me wonder if I shouldn't save my "mod money" and buy an M3 next year
If only the drive wasn't so much fun...

Sorry for the rant, but... I guess a few members here know how I feel...

I sympathize with you...hope you'll be able to get it repaired soon. Why does it take so long to replace the HPFP? Did you take it to BMW Kontz? That would explain the delay...they even told me that for installing winter tires I would have to wait three weeks! (which is why I don't go there anymore)

I'm taking it to Emond in Arlon. Generally I'm very satisfied with them, but apparently they're totally overwhelmed with work.

Now my car is immobilized the next three weeks, as I don't want to risk that the pump totally dies in an unfortunate moment.

Well, Kontz is definitely not an option But I'll let Emond know my disappointment with the long delay!

For all other LUX BMW fans: EMOND Arlon and KONZ Luxembourg are crap.

My car is still under investigation for coolant consumption after 6 month Only now they accepted to open a PUMA case

Drove my 335i back home today and the car started to feel rough. Like not enough fuel was making it's way into the motor. At a red light, it started shaking a little, rough idle and the SES light came on. Then the half engine light (limp?) came on as well. Pulled over and restarted the engine, but the same problems. Checked for codes, and sure enough, I got:

29DC Cylinder injection shut Off
29F2 Fuel high pressure system, fuel pressure
2FBF Fuel Pressure at injection release

Only 6,000 miles on the car. These fuel pump problems have been known for three years and BMW has yet to develop a new, reliable fuel pump. My first BMW will be my last. Completely unacceptable for a $50K subcompact automobile.

FYI - BMW dealerships are installing a newer version of the HPFP that many cars were originally equipped with. If I'm not mistaken, BMW originally contracted with a Swiss manufacturer to provide the pumps and has now moved to a German manufacturer.

This is old. No new/better part. Newer since the original pump, yes. But this pump still fails. If you will get the part # then we might be able to confirm this but I had mine replace 2 weeks ago, still same old failing pump (released in 08 and is different from original/old one).

uhhh, the fuel pump failures can and do happen on completely stock cars with very low miles. no one is safe. being tuned really has nothing to do with it. FWIW I'm at 35k miles, 30k of those heavily modded and I'm still on my original fuel pump. never had any issue at all with the car.

yes , you have to replace the turbos if you have wastegate issues/rattle.... I know at least 3 people that replaced turbos because of wastegate rattle without even having a tune.

@cstavaru

Yep, neither the wastegate rattle nor the HPFP failures are tune related. There's so many stock cars out there with these problems.

Don't presume that all 335i's out there are tuned in the same "proportion" as it appears on this forum. This is not representative for the "average" 335i driver.
