Just re-read the original post for accuracy. This manager was a man and managed to scrape DEEP into your clearcoat with his nails? Either his nails are mad tough or the clearcoat is even softer than I thought.
I figured with light scratching, someone would recommend some polishes and a PC instead of wetsanding. Then again, what the hell do I know. I've been doing this for 4 weeks |

It amazes me how bad a dealer can screw a car up. I think someone already mentioned it, but i would take it to an independent detailer and have them evaluate it. Make sure they can adequately remove all the scratches. Insist your dealer pay for the service.
In the future, I would recommend this: ![]() |

CAT,
Maybe we should develop some sign like yours to fit on the steering wheel to use for all of us. Given my experience it seems like a great idea. Just a point of note; The BMW clearcoat is hard but when a hard object i.e. fingernails etc. are rubbed on the dirty clear coat it WILL SCRATCH badly. Just an FYI that our clearcoat finishes stand up better than ever to environmental issues etc. but they are very "brittle" when it comes to abrasives. This is my 5th BMW and the paint is better than ever but everything has its negatives. |

![]() Don't sweat it, it'll work out fine I am sure. Just be diligent and make sure not to let anyone push you around. It sounds like your body shop guy will do a good job; but just let him know ahead of time you expect it to be done right, and will be inspecting the car thoroughly. I actually respect customers like that and he probably will too. FWIW, the clear on 335i's is on the soft side of average in my experience. All colors but jet black are a little below average, and jet black is way below. If you're not sure what I am talking about go to the detailing forum and search for jet black e92. |

ICALL,
Just so you know the car has been buffed with PC and an orbital and scratches still exist. I am just warning you guys that this clearcoat cannot handle grit. I was also amazed that a guys fingernails could cause this but I witnessed it and the car had NO scratches prior to this stupid event. It even gouged my ultrashield bra on the hood. Just beware of anyone rubbing etc. your car when it is at ALL dirty. Maybe we have special grit dirt in Florida~ |

Well, you can buff all day with a PC/orbital, but if you arent doing it correctly, or using the right products, etc.. you can still have scratches. I hope everything works out.
