Dealer offer for 335 coupe - Accept or Wait?

I live in North Florida. I have tried 3 dealerships around me, and the best I can do so far is $47,000 out the door. This price is for 335 coupe, with metallic paint, sport package, and premium package. The invoice according to KBB for this car with the options I want is $41,615. Here is the breakdown:

$41615 = invoice
2496 = sales tax 6%
44111 = taxable amt

47000 = dealer offer

2888 = dealer profit minus small tag trf fee and nomial county tax.

What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

that's pretty high. Im sure you can do better than that. People are getting $1200 over INVOICE right now. It's not that hard. Just take that quote, lower it a few hundreds and send it to another dealer and see if they can beat that. Then take the new quote (hopefully lower) and send it to a different dealership (could b the 1st one) and ask them if they can beat that. Just play games with them and you will save some money. hehehe

It seems like people in CA are getting closer to Invoice than some other states. I'll keep trying...I was hoping not to play games with them.

That's pretty much the deal I got and I played the e-mail game for a while with a few dealers until all of them said they couldn't beat the last offer that I had.

I think you have more power to negotiate with them on the sedans versus the coupes though.... not sure if you can get a coupe down that much or not.

In Cali, you have a lot of dealerships and they have to remain very competitive. I think the prices on the coupes are stilll going to be higher than the sedans because everyone wants it. I was able to get $900 above invoice on my 335i sedan, but I wouldn't be able to get the same price for the coupe.

That may not be such a bad deal. But to find out, you'll need to do some more homework.

Your invoice price doesn't look right. To give you an idea what you might be missing, here are the invoice prices paid by my dealer for my similarly equipped 335 MT coupe (I assume you were quoted a manual transmission):

Base 37,350
Sport 910
Prem 2,230
Paint 430
Dest 695
MACO 380 (varies by dealer and by state, imposed by BMWNA)
Training Fee 180 (imposed by BMWNA)
---------------------
Total Invoice $42,175

To compare their deal to others you really need to more accurately calculate the true invoice price and then add up *all* taxes, license, doc prep (sometimes negotiable) and registration fees to see how much profit the dealer is actually making. A $1200 dealer profit seems to be a fair deal, in California right now.

Good luck

Wistarf,

You are correct. I did not add MACO and Training fee to my invoice price. BTW, what does MACO stand for? Initially, I had calculated...

$2888 dealer profit, so lets subtract
560 maco and training fee
100 tag trf fee (approx)

Dealer profit would be approx $2228, or at least $2000. Oh well, Florida isn't California

Thanks for the input.

It seems like prices in North Florida are higher since there is less competition here. I'm in Gainesville, FL, which only has 1 BMW dealer and I've been trying to work out a good deal. I'll let you know how it goes.

They may be crap, but the dealer *still* has to pay them. It's not dealer profit. BMW NA charges the dealer for the MACO (Marketing and Advertising Co Op) fee, as well as the training fee. These are part of the dealer's invoice price when they buy the car from BMW NA.

Believe me, you will stand a better chance of getting the best possible deal if the dealer realizes that you know your stuff. If you go in there ignorant of these things and start ranting about how these fees are BS, then you'll get little respect and no better deal.

As I said earlier, not all dealers pay the MACO fees, and the fees vary. It all depends on the dealer's contractual agreement with BMW NA.

However I believe that all dealers have to pay the training fee.

Beemah, don't know who you are but thanks for the advice...

The damage has been done. Ordered a e92 Sapp Black with Coral Red/Gray Poplar, 6-sp, Sports and Premium Package. $46,700 out the door (including 2 BMW hats, lol). Already got my production number. Getting delivery at PDC sometime in April. Now the wait begins...
