Alpine hifi upgrade DIY?
Been searching for an hour now for the alpine hifi DIY, I swear i have seen it here before or am i going mad!
Got the alpine kit for christmas with a slightly dented cone so that getting replaced tomorrow! Gonna try and fit it myself over next few days, biggest worry is being heavy handed with the door cards. |

Get a professional ICE installer to do it if you have not pulled the car to bits before. It will take two guys about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You on your own ...most of the day.

I have never touched a car before and managed to complete it no problems. The most difficult part was finding the splices (which didnt exist on my LCI) other than that it was pretty easy. There's enough help on here if you get stuck.
I used a flat head screw driver coated in electrical tape to prise the cards off. They are really sturdy so once you get the 1st clip off, they just pull away by hand. Good Luck!

Well for those of us with Sept 09 cars onwards, the Alpine kit has changed and BMW has none in stock. Not sure what has changed, other than the wiring instructions need to reflect differences in how the pre & post Sept 09 cars are wired, and have heard its possible to fit existing Alpine kit into the Sept 09 cars, so its somewhat of a mystery ?

As for sound, not had a chance to compare because it was fitted before I collected the car. But I can tell you what I think of it in isolation. My main observation is that the mid and base seem very seperate. What I mean by that is that on some tracks you wouldn't know the car had the subs, and then on some, you really hear them. When they are audible it sounds a bit like there is a speaker size missing, all sub and mid, but not much normal base. Having said all that it doesn't sound bad, I'm happy with it. I also have a buzzing door card now which I need to get sorted, and, on removing the rear seats to get the amp in they managed to trap one of the belts behind seat. Seeing as this is BMW approved upgrade do you think any dealer will fix those problems? The one where I bought the car from is too far away. |

Hmmmmm difficult. I would contact the fitting dealer first, give them the option on what to do.
The rattling door card would be a warranty item but the stuck seat belt wouldn't.

That's what I understand the wiring difference in later cars, but why then is BMW changing the part number as the latest wiring instructions already covers both wiring methods ? Plus I believe this concerns E92 post Sept 09, so its not related to the E90 LCI change.
