I guess plastic pans save weight and manufacture cost? LOL. That sucks because being dropped, I'm now afraid that I will hit a rock or a chunk of ice and be screwed! (knock on wood). Your car looks real good in that picture ToadHollow!

Your pics show exactly what I initially found on my car. LOL ...... it was missed by the tech who performed the 30K 'inspection" on the car the week previous.

Guess my pan wasn't warped enough for replacement ........ the tech sure is though.

my car is lowered and i know what dealer would say if i bring my car to the dealer...

BTW, i would love to replace tranny fluids and differantial fluids since i'm approaching 50k does anyone knows part numbers for those?
i personally don't buy stealership claiming "lifetime" on those fluids...

I am also dropped. They didn't say anything to me. They actually thought it looked pretty good dropped on 19's.

You're absolutely right. I got under the car, and noticed the bolts and pans were drippy wet :-( I don't have the tools to tighten them. Taking the car in today.

Had the same issue. Was my only one in 3 years of ownership. They replaced the pan as the gasket is integrated and oil. No issues since.

Here is the TSB
http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B240205g.htm

The autos in the N54 are 6HP19, so I think that is how it applies.

Most are saying its the tranny oil pan, but then they list the parts and its actually the sealing sleeve that is the problem. I don't think its the tranny oil pan that is the problem, but the sealing sleeve....so maybe the tranny pan doesn't really have a warping problem?

Also if you notice, they catch the tranny fluid and reuse it. Seems stupid to me to do that, but whatever...I will be changing it on my own at 50k miles anyway.

This is not true, the gasket is not integrated with the tranny pan....the filter is integrated, but not the gasket.

I just got done picking up the car. I talked to the mechanic a little bit and he stated that it's more of the sealing sleeve leaking ATF. They just replace the pan gasket as a precaution. He also stated the it's a pretty common problem. Hopefully this doesn't happen again but if it did, it's actually no so bad to DIY. I wouldn't recommended tightening the bolts yourself if you dont have a torque wrench and torque specification. I've seen most people attemptto torque their own transmission pans only to "crush" the gasket and split it causing it to leak more then before.

I am hoping that tightening the bolts will fix my problem, so far so good...Its good that I now have a printed SIB just in case I have to bring her in for this work, which I might add I might do myself!!

Isn't your car still under warranty? If so, why not bring it in for repairs instead of tightening the bolts?

Yes I am under warranty, but I don't like to take the car into the butcher shop if I don't have to

It does, the 335i, E90 or E92, uses the ZF 6HP19 transmission...and just because the car may have been built in 2008 or 2009 doesn't mean the transmission wasn't built in '05...notice it says 6HP19 produced between those dates, not the vehicle itself. Not sure about the 328...I think the 328 uses a different AT IIRC.

They just haven't updated that TSB to include all models...but this is the TSB I got mine repaired under.

It might be a unpublish campaign meaning it does apply but was never publish or updated.

Yeah...I try to see if it worked tightening the bolts, but to bring it to the butchers, which the last time i went there, they scratched the shit out of my sideskirt from the lift pads....I didn't inspect it until two week after because who would look underneath the sideskirts for damages...retard techs should know that the car is already low to begin with, so the lift pads need to be flat and not in its upright position...Plus my car is heavily modded and if I can try to fix it myself I will try..
