BMW extended warranty worth it? 06 325i

I am able to purchase a bumper to bumper BMW extended warranty that covers the next 4 years up to 75,000 miles on my 06 325i. I currently have 41,000 miles and the only problem Ive had repaired were the lifters due to the engine ticking noise during cold weather. The price is $2900 but they will offer it to me for $2500. I am looking to probably purchase a 2 year extended warranty as I may sell the car later. I will ask if they can prorate the warranty cost.

Thanks

If you plan to keep the car its worth it to get it. I am at 86,000 and I have had my starter replaced for about $800, valve cover gasket for another $800,oil filter housing $400. with all these repairs i wish i would have gotten the extented warranty.

IMO extended warranties are almost never worth it, which is why they are offered. They make the dealership money. Depending on road conditions, a wheel/tire warranty may be arguably worthwhile, but other than that I say no. Put the $2500 in the bank. End of the day most of the stuff that goes are wear and tear items that aren't covered.

This is an insurance purchase/decision.

On one hand the average car is going to cost less to repair than the cost of the coverage, otherwise these companies would be out of business. The price has to cover commissions, profit, administrative overhead and the actual repair costs for the average car.

On the other hand the buyer gains some protection from the rare but expensive failure.

There is no right/wrong answer since everyone has a different financial situation and risk tolerance.

+1. Don't forget the 15% commission that the dealership makes on selling the warranty. Statistically, put the $2,500 in the bank. If you don't need it, use it for the downpayment on your next car.

But if you have had HPFP problems or other repairs under the warranty, AND they are covered under the extended warranty, it not be a bad idea.
