Head Unit Fibre optics

Hi, I have a 2008 E93 and have replaced the standard head unit with an Alpine flip out screen (I'm using a can bus adapter to get the steering wheel and parking sensors to work). Every thing works absolutly fine. However I need the car's SW reprogramed due to a coil issue on number 3 cylinder.

To do this BMW tell me that I have to refit the origional Head unit. Is this true?

Also when removing the origional head unit I hat to remove the fibre optics. As such they are just floating. Should these be terminated or looped in some way? If so does any one have details of a way to loop these again or a device o the marke I could buy?

Thanks.......

They can't code without the radio in, however you just need power and can hi and lo attached.

Leaving the most flapping around is fine as any devices are only attached to the radio anyway, and that isn't there.

Mercedes do a MOST loop adapter for around $10, but not needed.
More for people who add a radio with most on it and need to loop that so they don't get clicking while it searches for devices.

Many folks extend the CAN and put the OE radio in the trunk somewhere...

or just temporarily stick the oem deck back in, not like it's that hard to do - you'll just not have tunes for the time it's there....
