while were on a tint thread, anyone have tint on their windshield, ive thought about getting a metalic film @ 70% a few times just for the UV and heat blocking
i put one of those silver shades up whenever i leave my car, was hoping that a little tint would block the sun enough so i didnt have to, especially since my 335 will have black leather

its like 100-200$ in florida i think, its no problem if they just give you a ticket, but sometimes they make you go in and prove you had the tin removed, so you have to pay the ticket, and pay to get it re tinted in florida though it would totally be worth 400$ a year to have darker windows IMO, plus the cops never really give tint tickets (or atleast the two cops that pulled me over and said "by the way i know your tints to dark" or something to that effect didnt care) in wisconsin though i bet they are not as leniant, ask some of your friends, they might be strict

Just get the 35% tint. It's light enough not to attract attention and dark enough to keep out the sun.

I have a Montego Blue sedan - 35% sides, 15% rear - and I think it's perfect!

I'd go 35%. Not going to kill yourself at night and less issues from cops. Plus I think 20% and below looks bad unless your car is black (make the windows blend with the paint) or white (nice contrast).

![]() I'm thinking maybe a bit lighter than that for my coupe. I don't want the landscape to look dark and dreary when I'm driving. But I think I need some tint. I have never had tinted glass before, so I am merely surmising that this could be the effect. Does tint have much effect on your night vision? In another thread, there was a little discussion about the difficulty in getting a good tint at the upper edge of the rear windshield. Is it bubbled at all around the black dots? Do you have any before and after pictures you could show? Or some pictures in different lighting conditions, like overcast, full sun, twilight, evening? That's asking for a lot if you don't already have pictures, but if you do have some already, maybe you could post them. |

I don't have any as I've only had the car for a couple of weeks... and when I took the pictures it was about the only day in those two weeks that it hasn't been raining... (it was sunset when the pictures were taken, btw) - I plan on getting my new spoiler installed next week, so if the weather permits, I'll get you some daytime pics...
I've basically ran this same tint % or similar on the last three cars I've owned - here in south TX it is a necessity rather than a cosmetic upgrade, and 35% is the darkest you can run legally on the sides... I also see you have the same interior color I have - that also makes a difference in the "look" of the tint as the lighter interior makes the tint appear much lighter than on my previous car with an all-black interior... As far as driving conditions, the biggest difference is looking in the rear-view mirror but even that doesn't really impair vision that much... in all honesty, because I've always had tint, I was more uncomfortable NOT having it for the first week I owned the car! Anything else you'd like to know, just ask! I'll try to get some pics up later this week... BZ

![]() In Idaho, you can have 35% on the rear windshield and sides and 20% on the sides behind the driver. No tint can be applied below the "AS-1" line or "6 inches below and parallel to the exposed windshield." Whatever that means. I guess it means that I wouldn't care to put tint on the windshield since it couldn't be uniform across the whole windshield. Does the tint on your bimmer look as dark in person as it does in your pictures? I really like the cream beige leather, but I don't like so much how light it looks from my car's exterior. When you are driving under a bright sun, do you still get the impact of a bright and sunny day with tinted glass? Most sunglasses are much darker than 35% and even darker than 20% (I think) and a lot of the time wearing them it seems too dark. I don't want to become too light sensitive like people who wear sunglasses too much. They can never go without sunglasses on a bright day (this happened to my wife for a few years and still does to some degree). In Idaho, summers can be pretty hot with lots of direct sun (almost no rain, few cloudy days, 90 to 105 degrees). Idaho law allows "a luminous reflectance of no more than thirty-five percent" all around except the front windshield. Is this an optional part of window tinting film? Does it look better with or without luminous reflectance? Is there much difference in how hot the car gets with luminous reflectance compared to without it? Thanks for your help. |

Most companies will tint however you want it. They may advise you that the law is 50% but it's your car in the end and money in their pocket.

In WA state the law is 35% but I've driven around with 20% in a lowered Honda and never got hassled about the tint. If your state is 50% you shouldn't have any trouble going with 35%. You're still technically breaking the law though so that decision is up to you.
Visibility wise, unless you get tons of sun, I would go with 35%. For me, 20% is too dark at night. I have a hard time backing up in this car as it is if it's dark with no lights out (reverse lights aren't that bright). One of my last cars was a black VW and I had 20% on it. Looked great but I always felt like I was driving around in the dark. Even when it was sunny outside. Might be different if you're somewhere like Florida or California. |

Please post pictures or links to pictures of various tints. I am needing to decide between 35% or 50% or ?? I don't want mine to be too dark, but I want some benefit for keeping the hot sun out, and to darken my beige cream leather as seen from the exterior.

I prefer 35% on my windows since I think it looks good, anything darker reminds me of cars from 1992 and is annoying to me when I drive at night.

You could live in Iowa.... "Front window tint must allow more than 70% of light in." No point in tinting if you have a coupe in Iowa.
