Varying winds today but nothing to shout home about, driving down the motorway this afternoon on the way home my car at times would feel quite unsafe with sudden changes of wind directions. Seemed to pull slightly to the left at times so the steering wheel was compensating to the right (not straight) - is that just camber and is this normal for all e9x?

Or is it time for KDS?

Any other owners opinions welcome please before I splash out on more $.

I have a 335d and it has always pulled to the left (with the steering middle straight). I took it back to the dealers and first of all they said it was the camber in the road. They then said my tryes didn't have equal pressure (which was not the case). After a road test they said it needed a KDS test. I refused to pay as it had not been correct since the day I bought it.
Following me threatening to write a letter to UK Customer Service they eventually agreed to pay for the KDS. This was carried out and minor adjustments were made. It still pulled to the left! I went out on another test drive with a different chap and he said the steering wheel needed tweaking slightly. I have no idea what he did but it took him all of 10 minutes. It still isn't quite perfect but I'm going in next week to get the same chap to sort it for me.
I do a lot of motorway driving and its mostly noticeable on that as I feel like I'm always fighting with the wheel. In a nutshell the Afterservice I recieved was woeful and their diagnosis shocking.

I think I have this on my E91, its an '08 320 M sport. Just driven 1200 miles down to the south of france and all the way I have had to apply a slight pressure on the wheel to stop it drifting to the left. Sometimes I have to do the same to stop it drifting to the right. I dont think its the tracking because it brakes in a perfectly straight line. Its going in for an oil service next week so i will get them to have a look, though i will expect to be told its the tracking or that i've hit a pothole! its probably all my fault!!

The standard M Sport set up does seem to be prone to tramlining and will 'follow' the road. Mine drives straight, FWIW it is very easy to knock the alignment out. They don't like potholes!! KDS is a wheel alignment service from the dealer, very accurate but not cheap.

my 335 pulls badlyt to the left, but i had previously put it down to something not right when i swithced onto winter wheels?

I've always heard that a proper alignment would allow the car to track straight without input from the steering wheel (look ma, no hands! Bang!) and this takes into account the camber of the road. But in watching an alignment being done, this doesn't seem to be the case as the angle of the toe-in is evenly distributed across both wheels.

I drove across Arizona and New Mexico in 1990 with a crosswind from the south for 400 miles. My sterring wheel was turned to the right all that way and my tyres were worn quite extensively on the outer edge of the left tyre and equally on the inner edge of the right. So yokel outside of Amarillo suddenly appeared while I was refueling and said my shock absorbers (dampers?) were busted and he proceded to point out the oil dripping off the shocks.

Car only came out of an service Inspection 3 weeks ago and a MOT 3 months ago. deffo not shocks - they check for this and fail if damaged/faulty.

The car is booked in for KDS and tyreland (alignmycar.co.uk) they use the same hunter machine as BMW do but only charge £40 for a alignment print out - any adjustments is £10 per.

The techs do damage repair for a local BMW specialist so they know what they are doing whilst saving my left kidney not paying BMW stealer prices.
