Actually, they do. And they have even more lines in Japan than we get here. they are used to seeing a myriad of variations on the same basic car, at all price points. For the last couple years, Lexus sales have been growing rapidly in Japan, while Euro luxury car makes have seen declining sales.

I don't think it's an "answer to the 1 series". It just falls into the same class. I do like that interior layout though.

1. It looks terrible. I only like the lexus IS250/Is350 series.
2. Toyota/Lexus will never make an engine in this segment that competes with a bmw 135i for example.

No competition really. Like the 1 series hatch was ugly but this is even worse.
