Ultimate Racing CAI - when to clean the H&R filter cone??

Anyone know how many miles on this filter before it requires a wash & clean? I've had it for about 30k miles and don't know how dirty it is as this one sits in the wheel well on the inside between the front fender and the inner black pastic liner (curves down from inside the engine bay)

30k is long past when you should have replaced it. It already sits lower than any other filter - coupled with rain, mud, dirt, road debris. I suggest changing it asap!

I went 15k and mine was literally caked.

The original filter that comes with the UR CAI I believe is a one time use. I could be mistaken.

PM ToadHollow and he can tell you a really nice AFE filter to get. It's much larger than the stock UR CAI one, fits perfect, and can be reused. I would post it here, but I deleted all my PM's and have lost the link.

Yeah but with all the clean air it has, there still is dust and dirt thats sucked into the filter....plus also exhaust fumes from other cars! 30k regardless is too much..

That's a bit too frequent.

Cotton gauze filters usually follow the philosophy of shaking the dust out every 5K miles and a complete wash/reoil every 15K.

You have a UR cai also correct ?

Btw I agree with you that cleaning the filter every 5000 moles is correct for normal conditions.
I live in Semi dusty conditions and clean mine every 3000 miles and it is a bit dirty.

Fwiw I think the original UR filter which I stll have is a metal mesh K&N filter and is definitely reuseable.

is the K&N filter that comes with the UR cai a cotton gauze filter ? (see my above post).
Idnk but 15,000 miles seems way too long imho.

Yes, it is.

Filters do not need to be immaculate to be doing its job properly. Keeping the filter properly oiled is a main concern, which most don't keep up with.

in the case of the UR CAI filter, the cone itself sits in a spot that doesn't see a lot of dirt (inside the plastic liner in the front driver's side wheel well) so I don't think it'll be in such a bad condition but we'll see..need to get a K&N filter cleaning kit from crappy tire tonight and get it cleaned up...

It's AFE PN 24-30508 (oiled).

I got mine from bavauto. You have to call them and let them know the part number of the filter you need so they can order it for you (I believe it is a bit cheaper than AFE's website which only offers it at MSRP).

I also got their cleaning kit.

+1

I've been running the AFE oiled for awhile now. Was the original UR filter oiled?
