engine malfunction

I have done some research on the forum but there isn't much relevant information about this issue.

Basically, I tried to pull my car up to speed limit on a road (of course no traffic, no people, and I just hit the speed limit and slowed down immediately). I tried it 3 times in different days, the engine light came out twice.

it said "Engine malfunction, reduce power" on the screen. Then I can definitely feel the engine is reducing power. Then I restarted the car again, light's gone. Everything's normal.

actually I pull it really hard twice and the light came out both times. The other time, I pull smoothly to the limit, no light came out. In daily drives, no matter how hard I pull it, as long as I didn't hit the limit, engine light won't come out either.

Does this issue relate to HPFP?... if it does, will the dealer be able to fix it for me?. currently running on JB3..

thanks in advance

you need to use BT to scan and see what the error code(s) related to and go from there. Mike should be able to help you as well.

that happened to me couple of times when i was using V3 rev1

I never had any problem like these before the tune. I had some serious misfire during the 1 week I had the tune and now my car is back to stock and its still idling roughly sometimes and this morning 2 weeks after i removed the tune I had misfire in cylinder 1 & 2 and engine just shut itself off too. Going in for service this week.

Just had a similar situation. Installed JB3 map 3, 2 months ago. Never a problem. Tonight, some A-hole riding my bumper I nail it to limiter across a wide open bridge. Hit limiter don't realize it for a couple seconds...stereo is blasting... realize it, slow down, and look down to see Engine light and 1/2 power.

Went away immediately upon restart.

Have you had any issues since?

==EDIT==
Now I just feel silly. You said pulled to the speed (I thought you meant car's speed limit). That is what happened to me. I hit the limiter or governor, i.e. 140ish. I should read more carefully.

you need to pull the code, but from experience, its probably an overboost code 30FE I think and 3100, which is boost pressure deactivation. Solution - update to JB3 2.0; it has cold weather fixes implemented

Just emailed with Terry at BMS, he noted that bone stock ECU will do this too when you hit the limiter. Said it's very normal. He said the code it kicks off doesn't suggest tuning.

You triggered a LIMP mode. What version of JB3 software are you running ?

I wouldn't be surprised if you run BT scan the code you tripped is

30FE: Exhaust fume turbo charger, high pressure side
Error will not cause a warning light
Error is not currently present
Test conditions have been completed

3100 boost-pressure control, deactivation
Error will not cause a warning light

If you're coming out to Mar 6th Dyno/BBQ meet get him to scan first to see what are the actual codes were logged. I was running into this problem with Ver 1.4 software.
