My runflat indicator pinged on today on the way to work, so i took it easy the rest of the way, and home, then i popped into the nearest garage to check my tyre pressures and they where all fine (fronts where same, and rears where same, and all in limits) so i reset the bugger and off i went, and iv not driven far but its not come back on so far.

Anyone else had anything similar / any explanation?

Also the car was in the dealers earlier that day where they said they did check the tyre pressures amongst other things, but surely a coincidence....

I would recheck the tyre pressures mate as the run flat indicator usually comes on when there is a considerable ammount of pressure loss from a tyre as the tyre pressure monitor uses ABS wheel speed sensors to detect the low pressure tyre.

Did the garage, or you, reset the system? It may not have been set up correctly at the garage, as driving a distance is part of the calibration. Can't be done in a garage, without going on the road.

Surely NOT a coincidence - sounds like the dealers pumped up your tyres without resetting the TPMS.

I've done this before myself and when the tyres warm up (rears more so) the pressures increase and so does any new pressure difference and it sets off the alarm.

You should be fine now you've checked your pressures and reset it.

Check the pressures again later to see if they have gone down.

Thanks for replies guys, just what i wanted to know cheers, makes sense now.

I thought the system would only warn if pressure was below specified tolerances, didn't know it would go off for ANY kind of pressure difference up or down,

Its all about pressure difference - any change from the speed difference which is 'nulled' at the reset point.

If all the tyres went down together the system wouldn't be able to tell and you could be driving around on 4 flat tyres.
