Dinan Stage 2 Labor Question

Question for those with the Dinan Stage 2 upgrade. Dinan said their software update should take 1 hour of labor at the dealership but my local stealership is trying to charge me for 2 hours of labor. They are claiming I will have to do a BMW software update after the Dinan tune but that it is not covered by Dinan or BMW. Anyone have to do a BMW update after the tune?

By the way, Dinan won some kind of race so they are offering 20% off many of their parts until April 30.

Labor should in reality be like 15-30 minutes tops, barring having to clear any codes or something like that.

Damn stealership! This is why you don't buy Dinan. Your paying for a warranty essentially. When it comes to servicing they want to gouge you for more. They are going to plug in your car and let the computer run its update and charge you $200 for labor...With other tunes you can upgrade the firmware for free at home off a laptop. Dealer wont even know you have since its invisible. If you have codes from running outside of the recommended settings, just clear the codes. A good friend of mine is the Dinan specialist at the stealership here. Can't wait to do some pulls on him.

Yeah, I would just go JB3 or Procede...Dinan just seems way too costly for what it is.

I had my Dinan stage 2 flashed at an authorized independent shop, and I've never had any BMW software updates..

I have the Dinan S2 flash. They didn't try to upgrade the software at the time of install. However, when I went in for service 6 mos later, they said they might have to install another software version. I explained that I had the Dinan flash, I liked it exactly the way it was, and to leave it alone. They complied. Have no issues.

I have the Stage II Dinan and am very happy with it. To answer your question, I have not had any BMW software updates since my flash in October 2008. When I go in I tell the dealership about the Dinan software and ask to be notified before any update to the ECU is done. Methinks your dealership speaks with forked tongue.

Two hours is too long. I would tell them you'll pay for one hour only or check out another Dinan/BMW dealership in your area (hopefully there is one).

Chip Ganassi, a major player for the last 14 years in several racing venues, just partnered with Dinan and will run their BMW engines - including SOFTWARE - in their Daytona Prototype cars this season.

They finished 2nd in the first race of the season and won the last race.

I wonder how many professional race teams are running Juiceboxes....

Good luck, and enjoy your tune.

This JB stuff shouldn't even be in this thread. What is it with threadjacking around here people? I mean it's fine to make a suggestion but let's avoid derailing the thread and turning it into a tuner wars argument. I've been around here for three years, can we please just get beyond this?

End rant.

get lost with this crap! Go post in a jb3 thread. OP never mentioned one thing about any other tune, so why start crap?

And what will happen when bmw is able to see you messing with the ecu and jb3...bye-bye to your warranty and terry won't be there to back you up like dinan will, so beat it.
