Time taken to Reprogram - Wastegate Rattle

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to update/reprogram a vehicle. My 335 (07 plate) has gone in today for the wastegate rattle issue and another issue both of which need require a software update. Garage have come back to confirm this is the case and said the work will take 3 days to complete which I think seems a bit excessive for a reprogram. Anyone else had reprogramming done? If so how long did it take?

With regards to the wastegattle rattle fix, has anyone had this done recently, does the latest software still induce some Turbo lag???

It can take a full day to program the car, depends what is current and what modules are needing updating. If you car is a bit out of date it will probably be everything needs updating, nav, engine control, i drive etc etc, and to avoid running out of time or failures/restarts they usually ask for the car for 2 days.

3 seems excessive IMO, unless it is for other work too like the turbo replacement if necessary.

do a google search for CIP_Level_info_1-3_series_rev5_1209[1].pdf and you should get a link back to a file on this site listing the different versions. i don't know what version i have, so thinking it may need quite a few updates so can understand the need to have the vehicle for 2 days, but agree that 3 does seem excessive.

Creepy coupe, did the reprogram cure the rattle on the wastegate, did you notice the turbo lag that has been associated with the repgoramming?

I didn't have a rattle Gaz, mine went in just to have the latest software update, 34.2 I think it was from memory, although 35.# something is out now, no lag issies what so ever though.

That sounds about right, but to give themselves plenty of time and allow for problems they just take the easy option and keep your car for days.

Gaz, What was the outcome mate?

Mine was in having a break fluid service today and I had asked them to listen to my rattle - they have confirmed its the wastegate / actuator issue and they want to keep it for 3 days too.

The US TIS shows several steps to be followed fo this problems, I'm sure the UK process is similar, so they need a bit of time to look at it.

Also an interesting little problem here for 335i's, easy thing to check too..

I had mind re-done and it took a day, this however made the lag awful... i took it back and they ended up changing both turbos. This took a week !!

Mr N. dropped my car off first thing monday this week, then flew out to Dublin for the week. Tuesday afternoon recieved a call saying they had done all of the work but there was still some rattle but it was not as bad, they said when i collect the car and have driven it it i'm still not happy they will do the work on the turbos. Told them not taking the car back until they fix the issue it went in for, apprently they are stating the work now on Monday, but it could take up to a week to sort out.

Cheers for the update Gaz.

Sorry you'll be without your car for longer but you do the right thing getting them to sort it proper before you take it back.

Mine is going in a week on Monday so I'll just have to be patient I suppose!
