Id say 90% of garages do that.

I worked at one once. They did it regular as clockwork.

Ive seen it at my local BMW dealers.

Ive seen them ragg new cars at the docks also.

I followed a technician out in an M3 when I picked my car up from the dealers, he certainly didn't let it warm up before putting his foot down.

My local dealer has a 1/4 mile strip and a dyno. Thought it was common to all dealers.

It seemed a temporary thing. A day or two later I went to pick my car up and it was gone.

You sure it wasnt just rollers. I very much doubt they had a dyno.

Nah I asked the technician there. He said it was a dyno, looked like one.

He said he had no idea why it was there though.

Do you read Evo magazine? A couple of months ago one of their long-term cars (an AMG merc) was 'borrowed' by someone in the garage over the weekend whilst being left for a service. They just shrugged it off. This prompted a rash of letters, one from someone who got a call from a friend saying that they'd just seen his M3 being driven 'on two wheels' round a roundabout. He dismissed it too, but a while later the same garage wrote off his new M3. There were some pictures and it had obviously had a very high speed collision and left the road.

I'm sure they don't do this with every car, but if the visit involves a road-test or the car being collected and delivered then I'd assume it had been ragged. The significant drop in average economy I've seen bears this out, but I've also got my car back with 1/4 tank less fuel in it (although I did ask them to fault find a problem that required road testing) and the best one was with a nail in a rear tyre.

Sure it wasn't just the MOT brake testing rollers?

To be honest I'm not surprised in the least bit. They don't give a toss do they? As long as they don't ding the car I am sure given any opportunity to take out the cars they'd jump at it.

I'm surprsied that Carl says they discriminate though and only go for the higher power models. I'd have thought they'd just thrash the shit off anything and everything they could get their hands on!
