Anyone had genuine BMW dash sat nav installed? Pics?
Wondering how much they cost and how much is installation. I decided to go aftermarket but I dont want to have the wiring visible so I gues the only way is to go and choose a sat-nav device from BMW Accessories catalogue.

You could otherwise get an aftermarket setup IE kenwood, alpine or pioneer, and replace the head unit...

I was wondering the other day about an other possible solution. Before you critisize, I do realize its not easy to realize...
If you do not have an upgraded sound system with a center dash speaker, than there is some space in the front, in the middle of the dash, between the air-vents. (where the center speaker would be) Would it not be possible to make a pop-up hatch whith a tomtom(or so) attached to it, so that you can close it if not needed, out of view... Maybe im just beiing to creative here.... |

I bought a Sony as it has an active cradle and is Navigon based which is my favourite system.
I hardwired the power into the stand along with the TMC antenna for a really neat install. I used to leave it in all the time, if I was in a dodgy area it simply slid off, went in the glovebox and then when I got back in you slide it back on, no connecting wires etc. However, there is now double din fascias about, so I would get one of them with a Pioneer F910 or similar. http://shop.audioimages.co.uk/connec...05-p-2818.html http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products...0BT/index.html |

Nice install gizze,
Brave man too, I see people in our street polishing sucker marks off their windscreens every day. A cradle of any description is a no no, shame. They bust our neighbours mini window (mith a bottle of milk) for a pack of dusters on the back seat! I need to move. |

The cradle does come away too if needed, I used a three pin connector for a PC fan to attach the power, ground and tmc wire to the connector, so it is just as easy to take the connector off.
I think the answer to a neat install is buying an active cradle and hard wiring the wires needed to the insde of tha cradle. |

There is a panel that it sits on, pull that off and run the power cable down behind the radio.
I crimped a ciggy lighter extension to the back of the lighter in under the centre console and tucked it behind the radio. |
