More audio upgrade related questions...
Hello peeps,
I am considering doing an audio upgrade in the near future and wanted to confirm a few things: 1. To get power from the battery to an amp that I will install I was thinking about using an OEM battery connector as can be seen HERE (Item 14). Part numbers as follows: 1x 61136925166 + 61136920092 OR 1x 61136925176 + 61136920092 The only difference I think is that one is a dual connector and the other is a single connector. 2. Which door speakers should I consider installing? I assume an OEM set is the way forward. 3. Which tweeters should I install? I hear a lot of people mentioning the L7 tweeters but I can't seem to find them on realoem. 4. I take it for the tweeter housings I just need the following: 1x 51337184197 - LHS Interior corner moulding 1x 51337184198 - RHS Interior corner moulding 1x 51337119173 - LHS foam lined inner moulding 1x 51337119174 - RHS foam lined inner moulding I saw somewhere (can't for the life of me find where now) someone mentioned something about some clips that might get broken when taking the doors/corner mouldings apart to fit the tweeters. Does anyone know which clips these are and what the part number is? 5. Is it possible to install the entire speaker assembly seen HERE without having to cut any cabling up etc, including the crossovers etc? Is this something worth doing or just a waste of time/money? 6. When it comes to subs, the general consensus seems to be that Earthquake SWS-8s are the way forward. Having read a post by sniffer I think the SWS-8xi are the way forward as they are 2ohm. When the door speakers are installed in parallel with the tweeters that channel also becomes 2ohm so keeping things balanced seems to be the way forward. Any comments on this? 7. Are there any non-OEM speakers/tweeters that I should consider but will still fit into the original housings etc without having to hack the car about too much? Really appreciate all the help that has been given so far and any more to follow!! Thanks again. Last edited by toxicnerve; 04-06-2010 at 07:16 AM.. |

I'm going to get mine done some point this week.
Having installed a Rockford Fosgate Subwhoofer, I will be getting all my speakers done with the addition of tweeters. I'll report back when done. |

Just get the L7 tweeters...
For vehicles with HiFi system Professional DSP S677A=Yes 02 TOP-HIFI LOUDSPEAKER TWEETER 2 65136964013 $79.17 Part ending ..013 This is the L7 tweeter, plugs straight into your mid ranger. The door card clips are what you want, they will know what these are and will be in stock. Changing the mids is a bad idea, the crossovers etc. are different for each speaker, adding the L7 tweeters will give you the missing frequecies from 15khz to 20khz, changing mids is asking for trouble imho. I have heard two cars with the L7 mids in as well and they sounded really bright and in yer face, not nice at all. The hi-fi mid is more of the same. |

Sunny,
Look forward to hearing your thoughts when your system is complete. How big is the sub you got? Quote:
So in your opinion leave the door speakers (mids) as they are? The standard BMW ones are fine? Then just install the OEM L7 tweeters along with amp and earthquakes? |

I will do some more digging and see what I can come up with. Do those part numbers for the tweeter covers and back-plates look ok? Also, any thoughts on that OEM battery connector? Would make the install really neat and tidy... EDIT: Also those L7 tweeters, do they come in a pair or do I need to order 2 lots? Part no. 65136964013 on THIS PAGE right?
