retrofitting headlight washer jets?
Hi
im curiuos to find out if it is possible to retrofit headlight washer jets to car that do not come with this feature? they usually found on e90's with xenons here in the UK but saw an E90 with standard halogen lights with it! any ideas or info? thanks |

You'll need a whole new bumper for a start...plus all the other gubbins / wiring etc.
Xenons have to have washers by law (and auto levelling), but it's a lot of work to add them when they don't really work properly anyway. A quick wipe with a cloth is much better. |

Headlamp washers are required by law (in the UK) for xenon lights so all UK cars with factory-fit xenon HID will have them, as DB said. They are an option on all other models but standard on 330 and above even with just halogen.

You need the high-pressure pump and the system needs coding with autologic or similar. I believe the washer reservoir is the same - the outlet for cars without washers is just plugged.

I can't understand why you would want this? I have had to put up with it on my last 4 cars and find it the most pointless thing ever....
Why would you want sh*tty water sprayed all over your bonnet and bumper when you wash your screen! I have even resorted to turning the lights off so they don't work when I use the washers!

The only reason xenons have to be equipped with headlamp washers is that if you are driving in falling snow/freezing fog the snow will accumulate on the surface of the headlamp, xenons run cool unlike conventional halogens which also produce heat when lit.
Not worth the effort of fitting as in snow and ice when you really want them, the mechanism ends up pushing through the bumper and breaks off the little cap on top of the spray arm because it has frozen to the bumper You'll see loads a BM's with the caps missing from the bumper because of this crap design and cold weather we've had this winter...the heated windscreen washers are of far more benefit
