If you want to only clear codes, get the Peake scan tool. It regular codes and the specialized BMW codes. It doesn't do airbag codes and stuff like that, but it will take care of all the tuner codes and other hidden codes. Grand total of ~$160. I'm going to get one before I go into service. The BT tool isn't worth it for me just to clear codes.

Why would you want a cable when all you want to do is clear codes which your vishnu will let you do? If you want to see what your codes are then clear them by all means get the BT cable. It's worth it. If you don't care what the codes are you just want them cleared then why spend money on something you can already do for no added cost.

I think for the price (287.00) its hard to beat the BT tool in terms of function and usefulness. Its relative cost to the price of the car and your mods is very small.

I have a Procede as well, but bought a VIN spot from a local forum member on his BT. I am very happy I did it. Maybe check out your local board and see if anyone wants to sell you a spot or split the cost of the BT tool.

I think I'll see the biggest reward from it after warranty. Knowing what's wrong with my car before I go to a mechanic saves diagnostic costs and lots of labor. |

Buy a BT Tool and the Bentley Manual and you will be well on your way to being able to diagnose and repair many issues.

Posting for help, even on e90, without codes is pointless as no one can diagnose problems by just descriptions. Sometimes suggestions or guesses are actually counterproductive. With the codes we can usually diagnose a problem very quickly Mike |

I've never needed anything other than what the procede offered in terms of code-clearing/logging. That being said it doesn't HURT to have the BT tool if you have money burning a hole in your pocket
