I could try to help you, not sure how similiar the JB3 is to the PROcede harness, but I usually do my install in less than 15 minutes...

you need to look at the installation videos in order to understand how it works. its a piggyback both of them . basically you connect it to the stock bmw harness and it modifies the signals. Prior visit to the dealer you just remove it completely.
its very easy to install .

I have factory warranty as well... I took out my PROcede a week before taking my car in for long cranking issues. They replaced my HPFP, LPFP and updated my car's software, all under warranty...
The advantage of the PROcede is you can clear your codes before taking it out. Not trying to turn this into a "which tune is better" because the JB3 is a good tune as well, it's cheaper than the PROcede by about $400, but if your worried about codes, make sure you invest in a BT tool to compliment the JB3, so you can clear your codes, which makes the price difference maybe $200 between the JB3 and PROcede. Either tune can void your warranty, so don't think that just because the JB3 is cheaper it doesn't have a chance of voiding your warranty... Hell a DCI or CAI can void your waranty if you leave it in for a service visit. As they say, you have to PAY to PLAY... If you want to get together this weekend, I can help you install the JB3... Watching the video on youtube will help out a lot to, it's really not that difficult once you get everything open and you can see what they are talking about...

Just run the standard maps for your car being under map 6 (0-5) and you dont have to worry about any codes.
I run map 7/8 for the past year and i have never throw any type of codes related to warranty and such, but of course every car is different.

A BT Tool is valuable in any tuner's toolbox. I personally don't have one, because the PROcede has done well in clearing codes. If you follow 5soko335i's advice, you may never have a code issue, but you never know.
Better safe than sorry I say, and if you decide to add more mods on, other than the stock setup, a BT will be even more of a valuable asset to you, to diagnose problems that may occur, specially when you get into the territory of getting DV's, Catless DP's, or the dreaded HPFP problem. With a BT tool you'll be able to see the error codes related to the HPFP and that will give you warning to take your JB3 out (but then again, regardless of tune, one should be removing it for dealer visits, unless your out of warranty and then it doesn't really matter). Question, did you already buy a JB3, or your still in the market for a tune?

Granted a lot of people have run both the PROcede and JB3 with no real issues, and clearly our engines can handle the additional boost with no ill effects, but... ... Both go against your warranty, and if discovered will void it... Back in June 09 I was in the same place you were, did my research on the JB3and the PROcede, and I went with the PROcede. If your really worried about warranty, don't tune plain and simple. If you want pure flat out power, go with the JB3 and invest in a BT tool If you want pure power, but want a safety net, and don't want to invest in a BT, get a PROcede. If you want to take a ride with me, and see how easy it is to install the PROcede, let me know... I'm sure there is someone on here in the NYC area that was a JB3 that would be willing to give you a test drive as well. You can try them both out, and depending on what you think, make a decision. I'm happy in the PROcede camp, but not everyone will agree. Both Tunes are worth their weight in gold, when it comes to pure power gains. I like the fact that I can simply hook my laptop up to the PROcede and read any codes that are present. Of course it doesn't show EVERY code, but it reads the important ones and can clear them too. I think the PROcede is more safety concerned than the JB3, but it still provides that ooomph you want when you press down that accelerator. Anyway, let me know, and we'll get you that test drive

The best tune for those really concerned about their warranty is Dinan, though you pay a premium for it with less power than the other ones on the market.

Wsborl898, are you running a JB3?
I'm giving the OP a test drive of my car with PROcede today, would be nice if someone would do the same for the OP in a JB3 car... Don't want to steer this guy one way or another until he's had a taste of both tunes... Any Tri-State Takers? I will post this in the Tri-state thread as well... As I'm sure someone there would be willing to help out...

Let me know if I can help in any way. |
