Yes, I am a 335i owner and I agree with you completely. The 335i leaves much to be desired in the throttle response department.

Notice the similar fallout in the responses there, just like the first three replies on this thread. Other 335i owners are in complete denial.

The only explanation I can give is that the new 335i owners have never actually driven the M3, or at least not right before driving the 335i.

The same thing would happen on a Porsche forum if you told 911TT owners that the GT3 is better to drive for 30k less (this is my opinion too, BTW). Only the ones who actually own both would agree, but the 911 turbo owners would be upset that something else might possibly be better in one possible way, and they'd start bringing up all of the good points about the turbo, and saying it's fast enough, instead of actually addressing your point.

My background is that I have owned almost every M car from BMW in the past few years. The 335i is the first non ///M car BMW I have owned. Unless you count the 540i sport (6-spd) a family member had back in '99 that I had some extensive seat time in. My impression after owning these cars is that the 335i is a better *overall* daily driver than the M3. But it's NOT a better track car, nor is the throttle response nearly as crisp or precise as the M3, especially when the M3 is in sport (insane throttle response) mode. Which is more fun? It depends on your own driving style. This is simply my opinion after owning 6 or 7 BMWs and other performance cars (turbo and non-turbo).

Also for the record, I have been trying to find ideas on improving the throttle response of the car, and I have received almost no help. The best suggestions are on the other thread: adding the PROcede, and finding a lighter flywheel. If anyone has other suggestions on how to improve it or if any new performance parts are available, I'd be glad to find out!

Thx for the support Tom. I read your thread over at bimmerfest and it sounds like the real solution (atleast until maybe BMW puts a sport button in) is the ProCede. I think Shiv's comments explain what to expect ... if you ever do go ahead with this option, please let us all know as I'd be very interested in hearing your review.

i think u misread or misunderstood. nobody was in denial nor arguing with the OP.

they were just giving him flack for his 330i/335i comparison which could have been much clearer.

You're never going to replicate the throttle response of the S54 (NA, individual throttle bodies, etc) with the 335. Two different motors with completely different setups. Most turbos will 'feel' less responsive because of the time for turbo to spool. At least the N54 has the advantage of two small turbos which should spool quicker than some of the larger counterparts. Shiv has mentioned with the PROCede, that full boost is reached quicker than stock, so that should give you the 'feel' of improved throttle response.
