Bug residue won't come off...expert opinions needed!
I definitely feel a picture in this case is worth a thousand words. I have used bug off (an old can though) and bug & tar remover from turtle wax but the bug splatter just won't come off. I have read many threads and will try rubbing alcohol next.
I know this is a bug because of the splatter pattern and because I noticed it after a 3 hr trip. I did not get to it soon enough so it has definitely become harder to get off. It is quite noticeable and I really need some help on what to do. I don't have any fancy tools so what would anyone recommend? I have noticed that if I wipe hard (terrible for the paint), more & more comes off. If not for the bright color & splatter pattern, I would swear this was tar. |

Have you tried a clay bar? Or letting the chemicals dwell longer? That's pretty nasty, gotta admit!

I haven't tried claying it yet but it really is quite attached. I've read where claying doesn't help for things like this. I've let the chemicals soak for about 2 minutes and don't want to keep doing more & more. It is so annoying that I can't get this off...

Here is what I do when I have a bunch of bugs to deal with (which is always...I drive 150 miles a day), before I even wash, I spray the area with some bug remover, and I wet a few papertowels. Place them over the areas you sprayed. The wet rags keep the chemicals from running and essentially "soaks" the bugs, kinda like soaking a pan you burnt something in. I let the rags sit there while I clean my rims, so by the time Im finished, they usually just wipe right off. HTH.

I'm with ron gray - stick a folded up piece of wet paper towel, fully covering it, over the spot. Leave it there for a few minutes, then it typically lifts right off. There could always be some etching if it has been on a while, but this often completely does the trick. Any etching will polish right out anyway.
