its 6 screws....open the hood, look at big plastic black thing in front of wipers, there are two ducts coming from it with 2 screws on each side of each duct, remove those screws, on the front there are two more screws going thru tabs, remove those also, big plastic thing should now be free to remove, unclip filter from it, put new filter in place, check its correctly seated, now put big plastic duct thing back on with the 6 screws, check it is seated correctly and seals. don't drop the screws, they wont fall back out from the engine compartment because of the covers under the car.

You can get it for $30 at BavAuto.com or any site that sells BMW parts by part#. And yes I believe that is the icon since there isn't one for the engine air filter.

Yes, the icon in the car is for the microfilter not the air filter and its really easy to remove. If you open your hood and look past the engine and you will see a long rectengular shaped cover and I belive its held by 6 or 8 bolts that are 8mm. Romove those bolts, lift the cover, swap the old filter out and put the new one in and you are done.

definitely the right icon
after switching it you will laugh at how easy it is. part number is 64 31 6 946 628 make sure you reset the light for it after changing, you don't need a special tool, it's in the DIY that ryan posted a link to. |
