Turbo Timer?
I've had my 335 for a week now, and tonight I noticed a humming sound coming from under the hood after I parked and turned the engine off. Before I could open the hood to investigate, the sound stopped. My kid's SRT4 had a similar sound after he installed a turbo timer to circulate turbo oil after shutdown. Does the 335 come with a stock timer?

Does it sound like a low pitch knock almost?

Thats the oil recirculating. The knock happens right before the hum

I have the same noise. Nothing seems out of place.

newer generation turbocharged cars dont come with turbo timers since most of their turbos are both oil and water cooled.
you only need them for the oil-cooled turbos... |

your engines all have electronic water-pumps. If the car feels the engine is not cool enough when you shut the car off, it will keep running the water pump as long as it needs to(usualy 2-4 minutes) to help cool off the turbos and prevent damage. This is why our cars dont need turbo timers and DEF do not need the annoying idle time that everyone else warns you about. BMW designed this car to be like everything else...the last thing they want is their new product to be a pain in the ass. |
