How to tell a Genuine Windscreen?
Hi all
Im wondering if my windscreen is genuine or not, due to some problems with the rain sensors. Any particulars i should look out for? Jules |

not sure on how to tell but i have a non-BM screen in mine and wipers autosense were dreadful...........
As part of having some problems with coding a CD changer into the car - my Indy BM gargae did a full software update on the car and that made the situation much better - not 100% but they're perfectly useable I took it back to Bm for the problem - and they said often when a new screen is fitted - whoever does it doesn't "initialise" the sensor causing the problem......... which they offered to do for £75 + VAT I declined as its pretty much fine now anyway............ |

Have a look at where the glass makers codes are on your windows, it should have the BMW badge next to the makers name.
All my glass has this apart from the front which is non-genuine. I too find that the auto wipers are no longer as sensitive and has a mind of its own. |

The original is a Pilkington glass BMW badged screen, I had a replacement which was identical all but the BMW badge but still made by Pilks. It has been fine so far.

mine was replaced by autoglass, a lovely screen but the wipers are a bit random - often just control them manually.
TBH i never found the speed controller on them to do much anyway, they were always worse than the ones on my Bora. |
