Long story short, the dealer did not reconnect the drainage tube from the sunroof and water ended up pouring all over the amp. (Side note – the dealership accepted no responsibility for it as the car was worked on by another shop, once, two years prior.)

In any case, the speakers all started crackling something awful. Once the water was drained, anything with bass crackled if the volume was turned up to a moderately high level. I don’t have the L7, just the Hifi audio.

Stage one was to replace the amp. What I’m left with now is one speaker (front/pass) that performs well. The others are either performing terrible on either bass, treble, or both.

Are my speakers fried? Is there anything I could check without trying to replace speakers? Did the water damaged amp fry them?

Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks.

It's certainly possible, but unlikely. Was the replacement new?

Yes, the new amp was purchased new from BMW.

We figured that since it was the amp that was in water that it was the problem. Now we're not sure which way to go.

Just hear from a very reputable dealer/shop in Watertown. It may be something with the iDrive. Odd, but apparently it does regulate either the power or the channel that goes to the amp. I'll be taking it in in the next few weeks and will post back.

Since you know one speaker works, why dont you swap speakers to the sides that dont work to test? That is the least expensive solution.

Finally, might want to try taking off the ground on the battery for like 10 minutes, having everything reset... go from there.

Is the ground on the battery difficult to get to?
