How do I know if my wheels have TPMS or not ?

Hi,

I read that some e90 3-series builds have TPMS, and some do not have and rely on the DSC system to tell when there is an underinflated tire. I forgot to look if I have TPMS when I swapped my tires with the winter tires and reverse. Now I need to know if I need to buy TPMS sensors before mounting my new wheels and tires.

What I noticed on my car:

- The flat tire is not detected until the pressure is way low, like 50% of normal pressure (I have a slowly-leaking tire).

- I do not see on the iDrive which tire has lost pressure.

I wonder if I have TPMS or not ? My car is an 2009 LCI european version built October 2008.

Thanks !

Well, I just checked my valve stems and they are all rubber and can flex. I suppose I don't have TPMS

One question is, if I mount TPM sensors on the wheels, does this make the pressure loss detection any more accurate ? Is the car equipped with TPM receiver even if it doesn't have TPM sensors from factory ?

If you don't have a light on your dash and you don't have TPMS then you're lucky and your sensors deal with rotor speed.
That's the way to go!
The e46 M3 was like that and I could put any wheels on it. I just needed to reset it afterwards.

Correct .

Adding TPM sensors will not do anything for you since your car is not equipped with that system.
