American Express Purchase Program

Has anyone used this? You input the car that you want to buy and the options and it gives you a certificate to purchase the car at a guaranteed price. The catch is it has to be at a dealer that is part of the program. I priced out a 335is with an msrp of $58,625 and my price is $499 over invoice for a price of $54,984. Seems like a pretty good deal. Thoughts?

How competitive is the pricing on the IS? I'm asking because I ordered my 335i when they were relatively new, back in the Winter of '06 and I got $500 over invoice with basically no problem.

That's what I was hoping to hear from others. I'm not sure. Will they ever go below invoice on a model you have to order?

You should be able to get invoice. Has something to do with local dealers wanting to keep customers and maybe future allocation?

This is the biggest perk of the forums IMO. I have used messageboards to assist me in buying 3 cars, including the 335i. All were done via the internet.

I usually just ask around to see what other members paid for the car I want with the same options. I then email several local dealerships and see if they can match that. I then quote the lowest price and see if anyone else can beat it. No head-ache, no spending restless hours at dealerships.

I think that AMEX deal is great for the general public, who do not use the forums to research.

They email you. After you spec your car, it gives you a few choices based on highest rated, lowest price, etc and then sends your info to the dealers and someone contacts you.

Oh ok, ya I used USAA car-buyin services last time - same deal. Although they gave me 750 over invoice, hassle free, I figured it was worth it and stopped there. Maybe this time around ill keep pokin other dealers and see whats up ...
