2011 Z4 steptronic a lot more quick/crisp than my 09 E90

I'm guessing they aren't the same transmission? The Z4 I have as a loaner has a lot quicker and less lag shifts than the steptronic in my 335i and that is just on a short sprint up to 55mph. I live close to work and don't like abusing cars that aren't mine but in 2 shifts I much preferred the steptronic in this Z4.

Brought it through gears 1 and 2 on an on ramp and this transmission shifts quite a bit harder than the one in my E90 LCI 335i. No way I am abusing a loaner, getting a ticket or possibly have an accident goofing off in a car thats not mine and I'm not really used too.

This was done in sport + mode manually shifting.

Not sure, this one is a S drive but Im pretty sure its the 255hp model. I haven't really toyed with it too much but it seems to only shift like this in sport+ mode. My car should be ready today so I won't have much more time to test anything.

i had a s drive z4 as a loaner. it was not a dct. the shifts are incredible compared to the step in the 335. it almost shifts as quick as a dct. there is also a button that allows you to adjust how hard the car shifts. there are also 2 additional modes other than normal. sport and sport + i believe.

It seems the 335i gang got jipped on this one. Everyone he drives my 1 (135i, steptronic) who has a 335 says that my car shifts so much faster. A buddy and I recently drove a z4 (the sdrive30) and when we got back in the 335 we noticed the same thing.

I asked this question a while back, but never got any good responses. I assume it's just software.

That's weird. I have never experienced any other auto BMW other than DCT shifting faster than mine.

You must be special then. I was informed that the programming characteristics differ between the two because of the tq curves and the way they build power. So what other Auto BMW's have you driven because the Z4 transmission has way different shifting characteristics than the 335i's.

i've also noticed my shifts also depend on how aggressive i'm driving. if i'm driving more aggressive, the shifts are quicker. if im driving less aggressive, the shifts are slower.

I am the same way with loaners. But I think we are in the minority. Most flog them into submission.

IDK about the z4, but i have driven a 135 step vs a 335i step and the 135 does shift much quicker... others have commented on this as well.

It sucks, I got my LCI 335 back today and already miss the aggressive shifts of the Z4.
