Runflat Tire And Wheel Insurance (Canada)
I just priced one 205/55 R 16 Bridgestone at the Stealership for my coming soon e90 323i and it's $460.00 installed, balanced and whatevered.
![]() ![]() Going to spring for the lesser of 2 evils, the tire and wheel insurance, my question is: Does this $699 insurance cover any aftermarket winter wheels and tires that I might buy or am I locked in to the stealership for thousands of dollars to buy their oem stuff? |

The dealership is generally the worst place to buy tires from. Call an independent a get a quote. Personally, I couldn't wait to get rid of the RFTs, so I decided not to get the insurance. The insurance will not cover aftermarket rims. If you are going with winter rims/tires you will have to buy from the dealer (to keep the insurance) and they charge about $2500-3000 for a set. You can get a set from someone else for half that. Good luck with your decision.

Whether or not it covers aftermarket wheels & tires is based on the contract. Mine which I bought from BMW Autohaus for $500 covers anything provided it's operated on this vehicle, up to $5000 coverage.

Read the policy carefully since mine does not cover other wheels or tires other than the original ones at the time you buy the car. Most tire flats only require a plug as long as the hole is on the tread.

Thanks for the info guys, seems the plans are all over the map depending on your dealer. I'll push for the $500 covering ALL tires and wheels on the car and I will read the fine print lawyerspeak to make sure I don't get screwed. If anything looks fishy about the insurance then I'm going to sell my runfarts
