Have you ever had your car Permagarded?

I am planning to get my new car treated with Permagard before winter sets in.
I am wondering if any one else has ever had this done to their car or is thinking about it?

In case you don't know, Permagard is a concentrated reactive polymer based emulsion applied to the exterior painted surface to protect/restore the paint.

When I bought my first car, they sold me on something similar. I did some research and it's snake oil. The warranty/guarantees are worthless unless you get it touched up periodically, because no sealant lasts forever. I found out I wasted $600 on a waxjob.

Just buy some Blackfire Wet Diamond and apply it every 6 months. You'll save a lot of money, and you can apply it in under an hour including the time it takes to haze over.

Correct - those dealer installed packages are pure profit - and worse than useless.

I will add that this applies to everything the F&I guy tries to sell you at signing. Nitrogen in tires, VIN etching, Permagard, Lojack (especially if you have BMW Assist), etc. I would debate extended warranty/maintenance, but those can be shopped across dealerships for better deals (some board sponsors for example).

I had the nastiest experience with an Infiniti salesman for my wife's car. It was his first day, the sale was going on at closing on a Saturday, and he was desperate to make some markup. I wasn't using their finance, or buying any of their stuff and he got really rude. It "helped" that I was paying $400 less than they wanted to because I skillfully negotiated with my trade-in and had a written offer for the car from another shop.

In this cases I just complain with the National company (infinity USA in this case). I also congratulate them when I have a good experience.
