Insurance Rate?!

I am 18 years of age. Soon to be 19. Good student. Auto Insurance is under AAA right now I went in to get an approximate increase of the insurance if I were to switch from a 04 maxima my current car to a 335i Coupe. It totaled up to an Annual amount of 3,748 on top of the current 2,439. Which rounded to 313 per month. I do not understand why it i so expensive. I know I am very young, but can anyone give me a reasonable amount you have seen for insurance for people around my age? I heard I should go progressive or geico. It would be great if I can get some help. Sooner I get this resolved sooner I get a new car!

You're young, and you're going to have to pay for it..it's that simple....try getting on your parents' policy, if you can.

I'm confused that your car shows an E92 M3, when you say you're driving an 04 Maxima.....which is it?

OP, are you on your parent's policy? Have the 335i under your parent's name.

Yeah, there's no way around it. It's just that simple. You're going from a family car to a luxury sports coupe.

This was the reason why I didn't jump into a 350z or G35 coupe when I was 19. Insurance was killer high.

I drive my brother's white 2010 m3 because he is in the Air Force. So he isn't around so that is under his name and he gets some special pricing anyways. We were thinking to put the 335i under his name, but I wouldn't be able to drive his car under full coverage or something like that.

^^ Thats probably the quickest and easiest method, to say that you just "borrowed" someone's car. Reminds me of high school and college days when I am listed as an occasional driver, or even buying a car under the parents name and driving it to school. Insurance companies now are a bit more finicky though. They have a way to check and specifically exclude other licensed drivers in your household who are not on the policy.

Anyways good luck; with years of safe, accident-free driving experience, your rate will come down. With more than a dozen years of driving experience, my E92 M3 with full coverage is less than $1800 a year. As you get older, the less the insurance companies will discriminate against you.

On my mother's family plan since 2005 - this is my fourth car
I have one speeding ticket on record (just hit the 18 month mark 60 days ago )
At fault accident just came off record for 2010 billing cycle making my annual premium is $2350 rather than $2800 the year before.
I am the only driver. My parents have never been on my car titles.

So all in all ....you being so young, its expected.

Get on a family plan so you can get the benefits of 'good driver discount' , 'multiple vehicle discount', 'theft prevention discount', and maybe 'experienced driver discount' for your parents, it applies to the entire policy which is what you want.

Hope this helps and sheds some light on what other young-ens are paying...

Shit, my 6 mo premium is $832 and I have two speeding tickets this year! It went up from $612 Swag - get your brother to sponsor you so you can snag up a USAA account, if you have a clean record, you'll get a smokin deal. My gf (21) had to pay almost the same premium as me ($821 every 6 mo is what she paid) with farmer's ins., and she has a chevy cobalt - her stepmom sponsored her and she got insurance through USAA and her premium dropped to $402 with the exact same coverage. Just a thought...
