Got a 'phone call from the Service Manager regarding my post. Said the 12 miles was to paintshop & back.
But seemed a bit nonplussed about the brake pads, ie. 42k front, 30k rear. He seemed to think possibly not usual but he was a rather noncomittal. Said he would like to have the motor in sometime to check & mic up the discs.

Also, mentioned about the dislodging of the Handbook from its recess etc.
Asked if the person who drove it to their paintshop was reliable. 'Oh Yes of course, but he is a bit quite'.!!! I thought he went a little quite himself! I wonder!
The motors done nearly 8000 miles now so plus the 42000=50000 miles.
From a front set of pads? Somethings not right! I will book it in.

Phoned the Service Manager today to make an appointment to have the brakes checked out.

But to my surprise, he did know after all, some one who had done 50,000 miles from a set of front pads! So no worries!

I replied,I could only do 25k on a 320i. He said, ‘depends how you drive’!
Hard to understand, as I certainly drive this 320d much quicker. It has more get up and go.

Today reading has dropped from 42 to 40k. The rears still at 30k.

He invited me to ‘book in’ if I wanted to. I said I had made a note as to what he said and for the time being I will monitor the situation.

On my 330i I got around 20k miles from rear pads and 40k miles plus from the fronts.

50k miles doesn't sound odd to me. The pads are very very hard wearing. The downside of this is that when you come to do the front pads, you will probably also need discs as they almost wear at the same rate as the pads.

Thanks for that NFS. I am now much more reassured. A possible 40/50k from a front set of pads is for me quite fantastic and completly turns my previous thinking of brake pad wear distribution up-side-down!
Cheers!

You should be able to hand your motor over with absolute trust.
But IMO the trouble is, there are just to many sherberts in the motor retail business, from top to bottom. Always has been, always will!
Bang on, its a crooks trade! Bloody hate buying cars getting them repaired/serviced, have to deal with a bunch of braindead yobs 99% of the time.

No we don't, i only ever go on raodtest for a legitimate reason, and if the apprentice ever comes along it is to train them to liston or feel for faults!

All this dealer bashing is ridiculous!

Perhaps, but come on peeps, this thread is taking to the extreme.

Dislodged manual and changes to the Condition based servicing figures... Obviously the car has been doing doughnuts for 12 miles...

Amusing...

JonnySi I am sure you are quite right, there are good dealers and the staff also. I would think most of them are good for sure.
It's just that within these dealerships there is the idividual who lets the side down and thats all it need take.
In the present market conditions generally I would of thought it not impossible for proprietors nowadays to be able 'to sift' their staff for the best.
When I drive away from a dealership I want to feel on the 'happy' side, bearing in mind the cost of the work done.

I do agree carjack, some of my colleagues would not be allowed to work or drive my car. This is through there attitude towards my car, they may not drive customers cars in a bad way, but this can't be garunteed. As long as i don't hammer a customers car then i can be happy.
