Questions Abt Dinan stage 3 ECU Upgrade
Hi everyone
I got my Dinan stage 2 last year, and I'm thinking getting a stage 3 this year. But I have some dubts abt the Satges3: the data on their web site show it only gains 15Hp,and 8 lb-ft torque above the satge 2,and it require dinans oil coolerso and intercoller,so is it really worth upgarding? I plan to spand around 6k and what other alternative do I have~ Thanks! Last edited by AJ335; 10-01-2010 at 06:59 PM.. |

Do a little of the legwork yourself and search out the other FMIC and Oil Cooler options. Tons out there.
For example, Forge, Helix, ETS, AMS, HPF for intercoolers Oil coolers, you want to go with AR Design oil cooler and there is a Stett unit but not sure anyone has much experience with it. |

The stage 3 Dinan tune is worth it if you want the additional cooling e.g. for track and want to keep the Dinan warranty. If you use a different intercooler or oil cooler, DInan would still sell you the stage 3 software upgrade but without the warranty.
If you don't want to spend so much for the additional cooling and just want some more power and keep the warranty, the Dinan cold air intake is a better approach. |

I didn't see much increase going from Stage 2 plus FMIC to Stage 3 plus oil cooler. When they install stage 2 one of the questions the installation flasher asks is if you have the Dinan FMIC. So power wise I'd get the FMIC as that makes a bigger difference than going to Stage 3. After you have the FMIC and Stage 2 (sometimes called stage 2.5 by otter users), going to Stage 3 should mainly be about the oil cooler as it does lower oil temperatures, making for a happier engine. Not that this is related, but after 50,000 mainly dinan tuned km, I haven't had a single engine issue, my HPFP is original, and my engine doesn't burn a drop of oil between 6 month oil change intervals.

Well it depends on what you mean by better. Dinan stage 3 is in a unique niche. If that's not what you want, there are better ways to spend your money. I think you need to browse this forum and read some threads.
