pros and cons of 265/35/18 tires on our stock 8.5 rims
it seems some tire models are only avail in 265/35/18 and not our 255/35/18 OE size, namely Kuhmo Ecsta XS
also Tirerack only seems to carry some tires in 265's and not 255's, i'm sure they can special order different sizes, for example Hankook Ventus R-S3 I have Dunlop star specs now and originally was only considering them again or AD08's, but it seems these lower priced tires are also as good, according to some people at least so my question is are 265/35's a bad idea on our stock rims? |

265's are a bit wide for a 8.5" wheel and is not recommended, though I have seen it done for track use. For the most optimal performance, I would stick with a 255 Dunlop Star Spec since the other tires are not available in the 255/35/18 sizing.

You can mount 265s on an 8.5" rim but you won't be getting the full contact patch and you'd experience more sidewall deflection. Sticking with 255s are your best bet.
